Bernd got in touch with computer graphics in the late 1980s during his study of sound engineering at the “Academy of Performing Arts” in Vienna and so found his perfect mix of art and technology. In those early years of computer graphics Bernd pioneered several (at the times) never seen before 3d animations and effects and won several awards in his home country Austria, already focusing his work around digital character animation. Following an invitation to join James Cameron’s team for the feature “Titanic” Bernd continued his career as character animator and soon as animation supervisor for Digital Domain. Between 1997 and 2007 Bernd received three Clios and one VES award for his commercial work and was lead animator on four Academy nominated features. His main focus has been photorealistic character animation, utilizing several techniques ranging from key frame animation to performance capture. Digital Camera work and conceptual 3d pre-visualizations is one of his latest passions. Bernd is also experienced with compositing and digital painting and enjoys the art of photography. In 2005 Bernd joined the team of Spiderman3 as animation supervisor for several major sequences, including the highly acknowledged “birth of sandman” and the spectacular alley chase sequence. Bernd also was deeply involved in the development of the character Venom. As of 2009 Bernd is supervising digital character animations for some of the major sequences in Disney's Tron2 at Digital Domain.
By now Bernd has two decades of experience in leading teams of various sizes. His hands-on, artistic approach has earned him an industry wide reputation. Bernd is skilled in communicating with clients and artists alike. |
